Abstract:
ABSTRACT
Van, of the historic cities of East
Anatolian Region, has become an important city because of its geo-political
position. Since prehistoric ages, Urartians, Medes, Persians, Macedanians,
Romans, Parthians and Sassanids have dominated the region. After 640, Muslim
States have become dominant and sometimes this dominace changed between
Byzantine Emissary and Abbasid. After Malazgirt war in 1071 which was won
against Byzantine. Van and East Anatolian Region was captured by different
Turkish States. İt is still possible to see the trace of different societies
that lived together in the city.
Armenian, living Under the
domination of powerful states in the region, start building monasteries and
churches in Van and its region after they accepted Christianity in the early of
IV. century. Among these monasteries there are unique work of arts in term of
Architecture and decoration of stone.
“Architecture and Plastic Adornment
of Seven Church Monastery” our thesis’ aim is getting informations about that
periods’ under standing of art and trying to interpret those informations as
investigating architecture featwes, stone adornment programes of the monastery
that is archbishopric center of region in XVII. century and reflects Armenian
Architecture ideally.
In consequence of conducted studies
Seven Church Monastery is important in term of the monastery that reflects some
structures plan types, which the monastery embodies and the structure which
engraved geometric, botanical shapes and figüral decoration on its stones is
essential in religion for Armenians.
The planning types of our
monastery, our thesis subject, as reflects its own schemes at the same time it is
clearly seen that it has been influenced by its neighbourdhood which it is in
relation.
I wish, Varagavank which is in the
cultural heritage of our country will be restorated and brought to our day
preserving its original architecturel and mönumental stone decoration.r.
