Abstract:

The Eastern Mediterranean, which has maintanied its importance for centuries with its historical and cultural texture, has come to the fore with the discovery of hydrocarbon resources since the beginning of the 2000's, and has recently gained a different place in Turkish foreign policy.With the revealing of potential energy sources, an energy- oriented struggle area has emerged between regional and global actors. There are also reflections of the cries and turmoil in the region on economic, military and political issuses of concern for Turkey. Especially in the conflicts in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and continental shelf areas, Turkey continues its struggle against the fait accompli of Greece and Greek Cypriot Administrain (GCA). At the same time, the Eastern Mditerranean, where national interests are at stake, is directly related to Turkey's energy security. In this context, Turkey has clearly stated that it will defend its legitimate rights in the region in every way possible within the framework of international law. Turkey, which is the most ideal route fort he tranfer of energy resources to be extraced in the Eastern Mediterranean, has the potential to contribute greatly to international energy projects. This study aims to analyze theplace and importance of hydocarbon resources discovered in the Eastern Mditerranean in Turkey's energy security.
