Abstract:

The United Nations, which is the basis of international law, is a global organization established to ensure international peace and security after the Second World War. Today, The UN is the most comprehensive international organization, with 193 member states. The Security Council, one of the most important organs of the organization, is responsible for ensuring international peace and security. The structure of the Council, which is primarily responsible for the main purpose of the organization, has been discussed since the establishment of the UN. Permanent membership and veto power in the Security Council has been the main reasons for the reform demands of the Council. This study aims to make an analysis of the reform calls for the UN Security Council from the perspective of Turkey. Turkey has claimed that the Security Council, which was established to protect international peace and security, is dominated by five permanent members and therefore organization cannot produce effective policies against the crises in the world. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's rhetoric: "the world is bigger than five" has been the motto of calls for reform in Turkey. This study argues that compared to the other countries reform proposals, Turkey's reform proposals are more sustainable and comprehensive.
