Abstract:There is no earthquake event level time interval or slip rate study related to the Balık Lake Fault Zone, which is an important tectonic element in the area covering the eastern part of the East Anatolian Province of Shortening. In this study, many methods have been used to reach the tectonic activity data of the Balık Lake Fault Zone. Taşucan and Örmeli segments were named and defined in this study. The study area is divided into two different parts, B1 and B2. The B1 region is defined as the tip damage zone, and the B2 region is defined as the wall damage zone that develops along the fault. 4 geological slip rates were calculated along the Balık Lake Fault Zone. These slip rates were calculated from northeast to southeast as 1.94±0.09 mm/year, 3.22±0.16 mm/year, 0.90±0.04 mm/year and 1.05 ±0.05 mm/year. Depending on these slip rates, the Balık Lake Fault Zone has an age of 500 thousand to 1.5 million years. Two trenches (IAY 1, IAY2) were dug on the Yeniçadır Segment of the Balık Lake Fault Zone. When historical earthquakes and trench age results were changed, two earthquake event levels were determined. These event levels correspond to the Arshakavan (Doğubayazıt) 363 AD earthquake and Ararat 1679 AD earthquake trace. Depending on the two earthquakes obtained over the Yeniçadır Segment, it is seen that the time interval of event levels is 800-1200 years.
