Abstract:

In this study, we report the preparation, characterization and the investigation of the catalytic activities of nano-Al2O3 stabilized rutenyum(0) nanoparticles in the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane. The nano-Al2O3 stabilized rutenyum(0) nanoparticles were prepared from the in-situ reduction of ruthenium(III) chloride in the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane at room temperature. The prepared ruthenium(0) nanoparticles were isolated as solid materials and characterized by using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The catalytic activity of nano-Al2O3 stabilized rutenyum(0) nanoparticles and the kinetics of hydrogen generation from the hydrolysis of ammonia-borane were studied depending on catalyst concentration, substrate concentration and temperature. The rate laws and the activation parameters (Arrhenius activation energy, Ea; activation enthalpy, ΔH#; and activation entropy, ΔS#) for catalytic hydrolysis reaction of ammonia-borane were calculated from the obtained kinetic data. Key words: Ruthenium, nanoparticle, nano-aluminium oxide, ammonia-borane, hydrogen.
