From the beginning of history people wanted to know what
would happen in the future; For this, they have used various
methods. One of them is to read fortune telling. Many things
such as coffee, daisies, leaves, hands, books, playing cards,
letters and numbers were used for fortune telling purposes. The
basic working principle of these elements is based on
coincidence. According to Islam, gnostic things can only be
known by God; He says that the only exception to this is those
who are given information about the gnostic things through
revelation or inspiration. Knowing the gnostic things, which is
one of the perfect attributes of God, is possible only in
accordance with His will. Seizing the gnostic information by
force through prophecy and fortune-telling practices is
considered haram by Islamic scholars. Nevertheless, Muslims
chose to this practices to satisfy the urge to know the future; As
a result, they invented fortunes such as Qur'anic Horoscope and
Cafer-i Sadık Horoscope. One of them is Tefe'ul-name-i İmam
Suhreverdi. In the article, the work of Sadik Vicdani, who
translated and published the work named Tefe'ül-name-i İmâm
Sühreverdî, was introduced and transferred to Latin letters.
How Islamic culture approaches fortune has been briefly
examined in the specific work, and this work has been shown as
an example of legitimizing the practice of fortune telling on an
Islamic basis.
