EVALUATION THE GREEN AREA REQUIREMENTS IN UNIVERSITY CAMPUSES; A CASE STUDY OF KOYA UNIVERSITY IRAQ

The desire to change the environment they share has always been felt by humanity. This desire continues to express itself in more urban landscapes in our modern world. University campuses, as a microcosm of the urban landscape, offer many cultural and economic benefits to the urban community.

 University is not only the place of learning and teaching sciences but also it is a place where the students begin their social experiences that help students in their academic courses to be superior. This research is carried out to study the existing open spaces and green area inside Koya university campus the method of the study consist of three steps. Some analyses like location, topography (wind direction) spatial zoning design axes, circulation and general assessment about existing open space inside campus masterplan, were performed in first step. The second step conducted a quantitative survey as a research methodology to achieve its purpose, 109 respondents between males and females have been replied to nearly 30 questionnaire the form distributes online among students, academic staff, and employees. Data have been collected and analyzed by using SPSS. The results indicate that there is a significant desire of needs to invest more green spaces among users, vast majority of respondents were unsatisfied with the quality and quantity of green areas distributed around campus.

The findings of this study will assist designers in designing comfortable and flexible campus spaces for students as well as providing features that will promote accessibility.
