Teaching Turkish as a foreign language has gained significant momentum in recent years.
Turkey is increasing with each passing interest in and feel the weight manifested in many
ways in the international arena. Therefore, learning Turkish has become a necessity for many
people including foreign politicians, investors, students and tourists. Therefore, it is very
important to provide effective and permanent learning in the field of teaching Turkish as a
foreign language. Academic publications prepared in this field also play an important role in
guiding the educational activities.
The fact that articles and other publications prepared in the field of teaching Turkish as a
foreign language in accordance with the principles of preparing academic texts will contribute
to these studies to serve the purpose better.
The aim of this study is to determine whether the abstract sections of the articles prepared in
the field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language are in accordance with the principles of
academic text writing. In this context, qualitative research method was used in the study.
Research materials were examined through document scanning / document review, one of the
qualitative research techniques. The objects of the study are articles published in the field of
teaching Turkish as a foreign language between 2005-2019. The data of the research consists
of articles that have been accessed from the abstract sections of Google, Google Scholar,
Dergipark and ULAKBİM. An article review form prepared by the researchers was used to
collect the data.
Descriptive analysis, one of the qualitative analysis techniques, was used in the analysis of the
data obtained with the data collection tool.The data that serve to the problem questions of the research using descriptive analysis
technique; percentage, frequency etc. simple statistical elements are tabulated and interpreted.
As a result of the research, it was determined that the abstracts of the articles published in the
field of teaching Turkish as a foreign language were prepared in accordance with the
principles of academic text writing.
However, it has been understood that the summary sections of some articles do not comply
with the principles of academic text writing. This result shows that especially in graduate
programs, courses based on teaching academic text preparation should take place.
