Özet

Environmental policy, sustaining production and growth without removing environmental values and maintaining future generations' welfare require determination of a certain policy and acting in line with it. Its aim is to ensure an environment where people can live, to protect air, water and soil from dangerous effects and to remove dangers stemming from humans' activities. There are many state institutions which have authorities and responsibilities related to environmental management in Turkey. Studies related to the environment have shown that these responsibilities are not different in many European Union member countries or candidate countries. The responsibilities and rights of these institutions have been specified in the establishment laws. However, when a new institution like Ministry of Environment (1991) was established, no revisions, arrangements or updating was done in the establishment laws of institutions which share the same authorities and responsibilities. This situation results in different institutions having similar and different responsibilities. A large scope and detailed environmental legislation interests not only current but also future generations and influences Turkey's harmonization studies. For this reason, not only parties related to the environment but all individuals in Turkey should follow related practices and policies closely. Environmental awareness in Turkey is developing at a fast rate and the existing infrastructure is being modified. In this respect, the high potential of Turkey's renewable energy resources is an advantage.
