Van, which was established within the castle and was the capital of the Urartian civilization, was moved outside
the castle after 1915. Maraş Street is one of the first streets where the Old Van city was settled outside of the castle after
Cumhuriyet Street, and it has taken a place in the city's memory with its architectural formations, use and facade
changes of the buildings over time. Considering the general historical development of the city, the subject and aim of
this study is to systematically examine the changes and analyzes of the buildings and their facades on Maraş Street in
the light of the information available from documents and sources. While preparing the study, the existing historical
sources, city maps, and city photographs were used to investigate the facade change and current state of the street
within the framework of the information obtained from local institutions and organizations. In addition, witnesses who
experienced the process personally were also used. This study, which aims to emphasize the effect of building facades
on urban identity, urban memory and culture, is aimed to be a reference source for new studies to be done and to
encourage this.
