Concrete is damaged by various physical and chemical environmental effects throughout its service life. One of concrete’s most important physical effects, especially in cold climatic regions, is the freeze-thaw (F-T) effect. The F-T effect causes the concrete to be damaged, its performance to decrease over time, and ultimately lose its function and strength before the targeted project life. One of the most effective ways to prevent damage in concrete is to add different fibers into concrete mixtures. Traditional single hook 3D steel fibers are one of the most widely used fiber types in concrete mixes. In recent years, 4D steel fibers with two hooks and 5D steel fibers with three hooks have been developed as alternatives to 3D steel fibers with a single hook. Within the scope of this study, the physical and mechanical properties of 3D, 4D, and 5D steel fiber reinforced concretes with a target concrete compressive strength of 40 MPa at room conditions and after 100 F-T cycles were investigated. Steel fibers were added into the concrete mix at 0.5% and 1.5% by volume. In the study, seven concrete mixtures were prepared, one of which was a control. The prepared concrete samples were exposed to 100 F-T cycles, and then the ultrasound transmission velocity (USH), compressive strength, and flexural strength properties of the samples were determined. During the experiments, beam samples of 100 x 100 x 400mm and cube sample molds of 100x100x100 mm were used. As a result of the study, it was determined that the flexural strengths of the 3D, 4D, and 5D steel fiber reinforced concretes at the rate of 1.5% by volume decreased by 4.14%, 3.83%, and 3.23%, respectively, compared to the samples at room conditions after 100 F-T cycles. Compared to the control sample, the pieces exposed to 100 F-T cycles were found to have the highest increase in USH by 17%, compressive strength by 12.5%, and flexural strength by 19.2%, compared to the concrete containing 5D steel fiber at 1.5% by volume.
