His research focuses on the observation and analysis of molecular gas in galaxies, gas kinematics, and galaxy evolution. During his doctoral studies, he spent one year as a visiting researcher at the Department of Astronomy of Nagoya University. His first doctoral publication received an Honorable Mention in the natural sciences by the Association of British Turkish Academics. He has authored numerous international journal articles, book chapters, and conference proceedings in his field. In addition, Topal holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy.
