Özet

Lophanthus turcicus (LT) belonging to Lamiaceae family is an endemic plant species grown in Eastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. In this study, To determine the antioxidant properties of methanol extract obtained from LT plant flower, vitamin C content, trace element and mineral compositions. Trace element and mineral concentrations were measured by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS). Element values was determined as Mg > Ca > K > Na > Zn > Mn > Fe > P > Ti > Sr > Cu > Cr > Pb > Co > Mo > As > Cd > Be > Sn respectively. Total antioxidant activity, phenol, flavonoid and vitamin C content in methanol extract of LT plant flowers were 26.42 ± 1.68 (mM ascorbic acid g-1), 13.44 ± 0.68 (mg gallic acid g-1) and 4.31 ± 0.36 (mg quercetin g-1), 113.73 ± 11.81 mg 100g-1 respectively. In the study, DPPH IC50 was 122.30 ± 7.68 μg mL-1 and 87.98 ± 6.39 μg mL-1 for the positive control BHT and ABTS cation radical IC50 was found as 46.97 ± 2.03 ug mL-1, and positive control trolox was found as 18.47 ± 2.53 ug mL-1. Although DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activity of the plant flower was lower than the positive control, it was determined that it had a good scavenging activity compared to other plant species. It is thought that high vitamin C content, presence of some important trace elements and superior and strong antioxidant capacity in terms of total phenolic, flavonoid and antioxidant activity will constitute a reference for future studies.
