Çalışma, Urartular’a ait
For the science of archeology, photography is very important for its purposes such as
documentation, analysis and preservation. Photography is also used to record archaeological sites, artifacts,
and excavations, and to convey them to people. In addition, photography plays an important role in
documenting the flow of life at excavation sites, visually presenting the process of uncovering artifacts, and
presenting visual records of the excavation site before, during, and after the excavation process. Photos of
archaeological artifacts are also important for presenting them as cultural heritage. Photos of archaeological
artifacts presented in books, catalogs, or exhibitions can be an effective tool in preserving cultural heritage.
The invention of photography has had a significant impact on the methods of documentation and analysis in
archaeology. Thanks to photography, archaeologists have had the chance to record and examine both the
excavation sites and the finds and structures in more detail. Moreover, these photos can be used as teaching
material for archaeologists and can serve as educational visuals for the formation of social memory. In this
regard, archaeology photography should be presented with different perspectives and methods for different
needs. The process from the first moment an artifact is uncovered to the moment it is photographed in a
studio forms an important part of the relationship between archaeology and photography. The subject of this
article is the process of photographing urn 40 and its contents found in the Çavuştepe Necropolis during the
2021 excavations. In this process, archaeological studies, topographical changes in the excavation area,
recording the works by removing them from their places and then photographing them in the studio are
included.
