The new green
architectural concepts are being developed to decrease urban ecosystem problems
by natural and sustainable ways. Vertical and roof greening systems can be
defined as structures that allow vegetation to spread over a building, facade
or interior wall in a city environment. Purpose of the study was to develop
various applicable concept designs on vertical and roof gardening for Erbil
City. In this context, three places were selected for concept designing to be
Mayor Office building, Machko tea shop and Erbil Tower Hotel. These places were
defined according to the visibility values. Erbil Tower Hotel can be seen from
many places and one of the wall is suitable for vertical gardening. Mayor
office roof is also very good places to monitor the city and it can be used for
touristic activities as a view point, and Machko Tea Shop is located next to
the historical citadel, and it is a touristic place of Erbil. In this research,
a concept roof garden design was suggested and modelled for Mayor Building and
Machko tea shop. Additionally, a simple vertical garden was crated and modelled
for Erbil Tower hotel. Results showed that these tree small touches of the city
using roof and vertical gardening techniques has been potentials to improve
aesthetic and cultural values. Roof and
vertical gardening plants for Erbil were defined in a frame of this study.
