The concept of the divine has a significant impact on the formation of the metaphysical dimensions and theological systems of religions. Since the early centuries of Islam, the focus of aqeedah and kalam discussions has been on divine attributes and their relationship with the divine essence. Although there is a general consensus on the unknowability of the essence, debates on the nature of divine attributes and their connection to the essence have been one of the major reasons for the formation of different sects. In his work, al-Kifaya, al-Sabuni addresses the debates on the essence and attributes, elucidating the main principles of the Maturidi tradition. This study analyzes how al-Sabuni addresses the relationship of divine attributes with the essence of God and how he preserves the fundamental principles of Ahl al-Sunnah thought. Al-Sabuni’s comparative approach with other sects and the simplicity of his language are considered exemplary in Islamic philosophy and kalam. The findings demonstrate the balance al-Sabuni achieves between extreme transcendence and anthropomorphism, highlighting his contributions to Islamic theology. This study aims to contribute to the field by carrying forward the rich tradition of Islamic theology in the realm of divinity to modern times through al-Sabuni’s works.
