ABSTRACT
Aim: The purpose of this review is to draw attention to the importance of animal nutrition in organic animal production and to provide information about the general principles of organic animal production.
Summary of the review content: In the last century, the trend towards modern agriculture has increased in order to meet the increasing urbanization and the nutritional needs of the increasing world population. Due to the desire to increase production and earn more, a large number of animals were kept in a small area and the animals were separated from their natural habitats. Again, synthetic materials, chemicals, antibiotics and hormones have been used in animal nutrition to achieve this goal. This situation primarily left residues in animal products and caused significant negativities in the taste, aroma and product quality of the products. Due to these substances used, serious health problems have been observed in animals and people consuming these animal products. In addition, this situation has caused significant negativities on the environment and ecological balance. Organic animal production is becoming more and more important in order to protect human health, protect animal health and welfare, ensure sustainability in nature and organic plant production, and obtain natural animal products. For this reason, in recent years, organic animal production has become popular, especially in conscious and developed countries. In our country, this situation is still on the agenda, although it is not sufficient, and the use of hormones and antibiotics as growth factors in compound feeds is prohibited by the law dated 3 May 2007 and numbered 26511.
