3RD INTERNATIONAL TURKIC WORLD CONGRESS ON SOCIAL, HUMANITIES, ADMINISTRATIVE, AND EDUCATIONAL SCIENCES, Ankara, Türkiye, 16 - 18 Nisan 2025, ss.488-497, (Tam Metin Bildiri)
This study aimed to determine undergraduate students’ learning preferences at Van Yuzuncu Yil University, Faculty of Tourism. A qualitative research method was used in the study. The study’s data were collected from a total of 99 undergraduate students studying at Van Yuzuncu Yil University, Faculty of Tourism, in the 2024-2025 academic year through open-ended questions. Content analysis was performed on the data. The results of the study show that the learning preferences of students receiving tourism education are generally directed towards interactive and practical methods. While a quiet and active participation classroom environment facilitates learning, noisy and crowded environments make learning difficult. Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department students emphasized kitchen practices in their departments. Recreation Management and Tourism Management Department students found interactive discussions and understandable presentations valuable, but complained about noisy environments and the concentration on theoretical courses. It is recommended that teaching methods include more practices and use visual tools to adapt to students’ preferences. As a result, these findings can form a basis for developing more effective teaching strategies in tourism education. However, it should be taken into account that students’ learning preferences may change over time, and teaching methods should be adapted accordingly.
