Özet

Since prehistoric times, nutrition has been one of the most basic needs of human beings. What the first societies ate, what they ate, and how they provided the necessary conditions for food have always been a matter of curiosity. Although the eating and drinking culture that started with hunting and gathering has been replaced by modern cuisine over the years, it would not be wrong to say that the findings of that period are more advanced than today's modern cuisine. In fact, many dishes or food names belonging to today's cuisine belong to ancient times and can be encountered today with minor touches or changes. In the early days, the main ingredients of meals were vegetables, fruits, meat and herbs. Some food names were also created based on these. However, it has often been difficult to determine where, when and why some of these names were given. It may be easy to answer these questions in the light of written texts. In other words, the dishes and food names of ancient societies can be found in the documents in question or may give an idea in this context. However, this information may not be included in the written documents of every society. In order to learn about the history of a food, the eating culture of a society, the foods used by some societies, where food names come from, or other information, when archaeological excavations and written documents are insufficient, folklore or the language of the people is used to learn the past of that society. For this reason, humankind's life, production, language, religion and even itself have formed the essence of many researches from past to present. In other words, human beings were accepted as one of the indispensable elements of science. The main material of Linguistics and Folklore in Turkology is human. One of the research areas of these two disciplines is related to the cultural elements created by human beings and the emergence of these elements. Folklore deals with the cultural values created by human beings throughout history. Linguistics deals with issues such as the pronunciation of basic concepts of culture, their origins, the structural changes they have undergone during their historical journey, and the naming of cultural elements. Field research (compilation studies) is one of the common aspects of these two disciplines. Thanks to these studies, answers to some questions are sought. In the study, food names in Iraq, one of the old settlement areas, will be discussed. In this context, some of the food names of Iraqi Turkmens will be evaluated in the context of form and origin dialects helped solve some knots that linguistics could not solve.
