Özet

Mardin, has been a residential area since early times due to being one of the Route points of commercial activities. The city is among the important cities where traditional architecture has been preserved uniquely. Historical and traditional houses reflect the texture of the city, its original values shaped according to the topography. In houses where yellow limestone, which is widely used in the region, is preferred as the basic building material, the fineness of the stone carving art developed depending on the material is also observed. One of the notable features in houses that reflect the general characteristics of traditional architecture is the main rooms, which are considered important among the plan features and living units. The main room is more flamboyant than the other rooms of the house, where the power of the landlord is clearly shown in general. The prominent aspect of the design features of the main rooms is that it is a place where various herbal and geometric ornaments are used extensively. In this context, the houses in the central district of Mardin constitute the essence of the study. As a result of the researches, the houses that reflect the traditional plan features of Mardin houses and show the features of the main room were determined. In the study, the current conditions of five houses, which reflect the tradition of the historical Mardin main room, were determined, and their plan and ornamental features were examined.
