TRB2 ULUSLARARASI EĞİTİM BİLİMLERİ KONGRESİ (ICES 2022)), Van, Türkiye, 24 - 26 Haziran 2022, ss.56, (Özet Bildiri)
The developments in the field of technology in recent years have greatly affected individual and
social life. Distance education can also be considered as a concept that emerged as a result of these
developments. Distance education, which is the conduct of educational activities without physical
interaction through technology products such as television, computer, tablet, mobile phone, has some
differences when compared to traditional education applications. Distance education differs from face-toface education in terms of its features such as being able to appeal to large audiences covering all ages
and professions, not being bound by time and space limitations, being able to be shaped according to
individual learning qualities and being available to use multimedia tools. Along with its many advantages,
disadvantages such as claims about the risk of distraction, technical disruptions, high infrastructure and
technical tool costs for the system are emphasized. The Covid 19 epidemic, which started to be seen in
the first months of 2020 and gradually affected the whole world, prevented education activities from being
carried out in a traditional way. As in the rest of the world, distance education has been started in all stages
of the education process in Turkey. It has become important to investigate how efficient the distance
education method, which was started to be implemented due to the coronavirus epidemic, is for students.
The aim of this study is to reveal the views of social studies teacher candidates, who are trained to be
practitioners of the social studies education process, about the distance education process. The
contribution of distance education offered to social studies teacher candidates in online and face-to-face
environments to the professional education of teacher candidates, the technical problems experienced, the
efficiency of this education method, etc. Opinions on the issues were wanted to be determined. The study
group of the research consists of social studies teacher candidates studying at Van Yüzüncü Yıl University,
Department of Social Studies Teaching. Research data was collected through Google Forms and face-toface interviews, through a survey created by the researcher. The obtained data were analyzed by content
analysis. From the perspective of social studies teacher candidates, some suggestions were made in order
to make the distance education process more efficient.
