Covid-19, which is a new type
of coronavirus disease, has effected the whole world in a very short time,
caused hundreds of thousands of people to die and the physical and mental
health of billions of people to deteriorate. This pandemic, which deeply
affected the economic and social life of the world, has caused to be declared
curfews for days, made people forget the old and created new normals. In the
study in this context, the relationship between tourism and outbreaks initially
was examined, and the crises caused by epidemics that affected the world in the
past, and the solutions produced were scrutinized. It was determined that
people's understanding of the holiday has been changed significantly during the
pandemic period. Under normal conditions, the economic and social preferences
of consumers are in the forefront in making travel decisions, whereas it is
understood that psychological preferences became more evident in pandemic
periods. Also during the epidemic periods, it is seen that there will be
significant differences in people's holiday preferences, the distance they can
travel, and their will to go on vacation. In the study, which included the idea
that the effects of pandemic will be deep and long-term and therefore the
restructuring of tourism is necessary, it has been understood that how
important especially crisis management, the technological applications used,
the new rules, and the precaution packages in the success of the process.
Moreover, Covid-19 can contribute to the redefinition of many facts in tourism
and to re-establishing the balances, and to create a tourism understanding
where more responsible and ethical rules are applied completely.
