In this study, the wild plants fresh consumed as food by people living around
Van region and their usage ways were investigated. It is found that 10 families
(Apiaceae, Liliaceae, Asteraceae, Polygonaceae, Lamiaceae, Urticaceae, Brassicaceae,
Liliaceae, Malvaceae, Plantaginaceae), which consist of 19 taxa (Urtica dioica L.,
Eremurus spectabilis BGEB., Nasturtium officinale R.Br., Tragopogon reticulatus Boiss.
& Huet, Rumex tuberosus L. subsp. horizontalis KOCH RECH., Allium akaka
S.G.Gmel. ex Schult. & Schult.f, Chaerophyllum macropodum Boiss, Thymus fallax
Fisch. & C.A.Mey, Malva neglecta Wallr., Allium shatakiense Rech. f., Ornithogalum
oligophyllum E. D. CLARKE, Ferula rigidula Fisch. ex DC., Heracleum persicum
Desf, Gundelia tournefortii L., Rheum ribes L., Prangos ferulacea (L.) Lindl, Mentha
longifolia (L.) HUDSON subsp. longifolia (L.) HUDSON, Plantago major L. subsp.
intermedia (Gilib.) Lange, Eryngium billardieri F. Delaroche) are consumed as a food
in different ways (as an ingredients to meals, peeling, boiling, roasted and salads)
according to their evaluated parts. The plants those are generally consumed for leaves
by people living in this region were reported as Urtica dioica L., Malva neglecta Wall.,
Eremurus spectabilis BIEB., Rumex tuberosus L. subsp. horizontalis (KOCH) RECH.,
Allium akaka S.G.Gmel. ex Schult. & Schult.f, Thymus fallax Fisch. & C.A.Mey,
Ornithogalum oligophyllum E.D. CLARKE, Allium shatakiense Rech. f.., Mentha
longifolia (L.) HUDSON subsp. longifolia (L.) HUDSON, Plantago major L. subsp.
intermedia (Gilib.) Lange. It was also reported that Heracleum persicum Desf., Prangos
ferulacea (L.) Lindl., Chaerophyllum macropodum Boiss., Ferula rigidula Fisch. ex
DC. were consumed for stem, Rheum ribes L., Eryngium billardierei F.Delaroche,
Gundelia tournefortii L. were consumed with peeling stalk and Tragopogon reticulatus
Boiss. & Huet and Nasturtium officinale R.Br. were consumed as raw salads.
