This study aimed to determine the larval ontogeny of Pethia conchonius, (Hamilton, 1822),
which is distributed in Asia: Afghanistan, Pakistan, India,
Nepaland Bangladesh. However, embryonic and larval development
stages were evaluated microscopically and histologically. Trials carried out 60
broodstock fishes, and their breeding was carried out after appropriate
adaptations. Round and transparent eggs
with a diameter of 867.6±21.7 µm have started to hatch approximately 27 hours
after spawning at 26.3 °C. It was determined that newly hatched larvae have a
total length of around 4227±265 µm (n:30), have started exogenous feeding at 4
day after hatching and started to take particulate and powder baits at the end
of 18 day after hatching. The early stage growth formula of rosy barb calculated with the
exponential relationship model is y = 3.8346e0.0313x (R2
= 0.9112, n=140). Digestive tract differentiation,
hepatopancreas, digestive tubes and gill arches formations were examined by
taking histological sections in early life stages.
