Özet
This study aims to analyze David Mitchell's Slade House through the lens of transmodernism, a novel approach that contemporary writers and theorists have proposed to define our era. In his 2015 novel, Slade House, David Mitchell, one of the acclaimed authors of English literature, tells us the story of our age through a group of characters from different social classes who intersect on a formal path. Both the private lives of these characters and their different ways of communicating are postmodern, which puts them in a dark hole. However, Zeitgeist exposes them to a transmodern perspective on life. In this vein, the study highlights the novel's gothic spirit, temporal, and spatial transitions through transmodernism. Accordingly, the study analyzes how the spiritual, cultural, and economic attitudes of the characters in the novel shape their worldviews and manifest in their social lives with respect to the principles of transmodern theory. Within this framework, we might consider the embrace of the fictional universes constructed by David Mitchell in his novel, as well as the personal growth of individuals who navigate these universes with their own set of convictions and principles, as the core transmodern outlook of our era. After crossing Slade Street and reaching Slade House, the possibility of establishing a connection between the physical realm and spirituality is contingent upon our belief in it. Consequently, Slade House embodies the essence of spirituality and thus transmodernity. Keywords: transmodernizm, David Mitchell, Slade House, contemporary English literature
