Bilimsel, kültürel ve sanatsal olguların odağında yer alan fotoğraf aynı zamanda sosyolojik, psikolojik, teknik ve estetik potansiyele sahip ve diğer sanatlarla en fazla etkileşim halinde olan bir medyumdur. İçinde yaşadığımız evren davranışlarımızı, duygularımızı ve düşüncelerimizi biçimlendiren, yönlendiren görsel imgeler olan fotoğraflar tarafından kuşatılmıştır. Günümüzde fotoğraf anları kayıt altına alan görsel bir biçim olmasının yanı sıra sanatın her alanında geçerli bir yöntem olan yeniden üretimin önemli bir aracı olarak da göze çarpmaktadır. Kuşkusuz bir yeniden üretim biçimi olarak fotoğraf mitolojik imgeler ile yakından ilgilenmektedir. Özellikle popüler kültür, tüketim kültürü ve sanat eserleri için mükemmel bir kaynak olan mitoloji fotoğraf aracılığıyla kitleler içinde heyecan verici, arzu ve hazza dayalı baştan çıkarıcı, ayartıcı olanaklar sağlamaktadır. Bu nedenle geçmişte mitlere olan inancı yansıtan mitolojik figürler fotoğraflar aracılığıyla günümüzde pop ikonları için imaj çalışmasını güçlendiren bir malzeme haline gelmiştir. Bu çalışmada Mariano Vivanco tarafından erkek dergisi GQ’ nun 25. yılına özel gerçekleştirdiği pop ikonu şarkıcı Rihanna’ yı medusa kılığına soktuğu imaj incelenecektir. Çalışmada kullanılan fotoğraf tüketimsel hazza ve ayartmaya dayalı mitolojinin yeniden üretimine bir örnek hem de imaj çalışmasını güçlendiren bir malzeme olarak göze çarpmaktadır.
The photograph that takes place in the center of scientific, cultural and artistic phenomena is a medium with a social, physiological, technical and aesthetics potential and has the most interaction with the other arts at the same time. The universe we live in is surrounded by photographs that are the visual images that shape and direct our behaviors, emotions, and thoughts. Today, as photography is a visual shape which records the moments, it also attracts the attention as an important tool of reproduction which is a valid method in every area of the art. No doubt, photography is interested in mythological images closely as a reproduction type. Mythology as an excellent source, especially for popular culture, consumer culture and art objects provides exciting, tempting leaned on desire and pleasure and seductive opportunities for the masses by through photography. Therefore mythological figures which reflect the belief to the myths in the past became a restorative tool for the pop icons' image actions by the help of the photography. In this work, the image series of pop icon Rihanna in which she is in Medusa appearance by Mariano Vivanco for the special edition of the man magazine GQ for its 25. Years. The photograph used in this work draws the attention both as a sample to the reproduction of the mythology leaned on consumption pleasure and seduction and as a tool that strengthens the artist's image work.
