Effects of Lead Nitrate (PbNO3) on Seed Germination and Seedling Growth in Different Sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) Genotypes

Özet

Abstract: This study was aimed to determine the effects of increasing doses (control, 100, 200 and 400 mg L-1) of lead nitrate (PbNO3) on seed germination and seedling development of 11 different sesame genotypes in the Department of Field Crops laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Kahramanmaraş Sütçü İmam University in 2016. It was carried out according to the split plot experimental design with three replications at 25 °C (± 2). In the experiment, two pieces of filter paper were placed in each of the 132 sterile petri dishes, where 25 seeds of each genotype were placed to germinate for 14 days, and then, some basic germination and seedling growth determining parameters such as germination rate, radicle length, plumula length, seedling length, radicle wet and dry weight, plumula wet and dry weight, seedling wet and dry weight and vigor index were measured. As a result, the effects of increasing doses of lead nitrate on the seeds germination rates of sesame genotypes varied according to genotypes. The highest values of germination rates and other investigated traits were found to be obtained from control applications of genotypes except Muganlı-57 variety. The highest germination rate was measured at 400 mg L-1 at the Muganlı-57 genotype, which was found to be more tolerant to increased lead nitrate doses.
