Özet

This study evaluates the rising importance of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in agricultural production within the framework of intellectual property rights and institutional impacts. The inadequacy of traditional agricultural methods in the face of increasing population and environmental pressures has paved the way for developing GMO technologies. While discussing the contributions of transgenic crops in areas such as productivity, nutrient content, and resistance to environmental stresses, the study emphasizes that developing GMO technologies is not only a scientific process but also has serious economic and legal consequences. Intellectual property rights can threaten the independence of small producers and developing countries, especially by increasing the control of large corporations over GMOs. Furthermore, the importance of international regulations such as the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety, and the WIPO Agreement for protecting genetic resources and traditional knowledge is discussed. It is also stated that Turkey needs to strengthen its national legislation in these processes. The study concludes that the future of agricultural biotechnology requires a balanced approach between public and private interests, encouraging scientific innovation and protecting the rights of local communities. Promoting sustainable agriculture and fair resource sharing are the main objectives in this context.
