Özet

The political and economic developments experienced in the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century shook the balances in Anatolian cities and caused the decline of the empire. These changes mostly erupted with the First World War. The Central Powers, which the Ottoman Empire was a part of, had to pay a heavy price as the war losers. The Armistice of Mudros signed between the Allied Powers after the war and the occupations carried out by the Allied Powers in order to maintain public order deeply shook the Turkish society and caused occupations in Anatolia. Gaziantep was among the occupied cities. National struggle movements were initiated in Gaziantep as in many cities of Anatolia against these occupations. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's words "Either Death or Independence" turned into an extraordinary struggle in Gaziantep. The Panorama 25 December Museum, which is about the Gaziantep Defense, which attracted attention among the independence movements that took place in the early 20th century, stands out in the city. Designed with a postmodern architectural design, the museum conveys the Antep Defense to visitors with effective exhibition methods. The exhibition layout in the museum, which presents the Antep Defense chronologically with its unique story, creates a great impact on visitors and allows them to establish deep connections with the history of the national struggle. There are 14 oil paintings on the Antep Defense in the museum's Art Gallery. The stories conveyed in the paintings that are the subject of this study are evidence of the common pain experienced in the region, victory and the protection of national identity.
