Abstract

Nowadays rapid improvements in technology and science fields have increased significantly the human’s effect which is converter and sometimes destructive on nature and its extension that natural and cultural landscaping. For this reason the cities which lose characteristics of rural, local, traditional and leave from naturalness gradually transform towards homogeneous spaces. The Cittaslow union (Slow City Union) has emerged with seeking again the features which the city man lost. Cittaslow union receive memberships with evaluating 72 criteria under seven policies titles broadly. Van (Turkey) which contains within rich historical processes, different ethnic communities and cultural landscape varieties is a significant city thathas an important place at local, national and international scales. Also the town of Van, Gevaş has an important place with conveying richness of cultural heritage from many civilizations from Urartu to until today. In this study; basically in which proportion Gevaş will provide the criteria to be a member of Cittaslow Union is revealed. If this town provides necessary criteria to be a member of Union, this town which offers slow life opportunities, does not have erosion in social values, protects its nature and culture is going to provide new alternatives and aspects as being the center of new culture, recreation, tourism and gastronomy.
