The phenomenon of migration, which has a rich definition and diversity on a
conceptual basis, has been gaining gradually importance day by day with its
changing forms. International students’ migration, which is new among migration
types, is among these migrations that has gained importance. International
students’ migration, which allows students to study in a different country, offers
students the opportunity to access quality education opportunities, acquire new
languages and cultures, gain new skills and look at the business field from a wider
perspective on a professional basis. In this context, the definition of migration,
types of migration, international students’ migration, and the general situation of
international students’ migration in the world and in Turkey have been illustrated
in this study. As far as the findings obtained is this study are concerned, it is clearly
seen that the number of international students in the world has reached 7.5 million
as of 2021, and the destination of migration has mostly been to the USA and
England. China and India are among the countries that send the most international
students abroad. As far as the situation in Turkey is concerned, it is understood
that there has been a rapid increase in the number of international students’
migration after 1990 and that origin country of the international students are
mostly Syria, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.
