Climate change is causing an increase in the frequency and severity of climate-related hazards, particularly
extreme heat events, floods, forest fires, forest fire smoke, and ozone air pollution. Today, cities, public spaces,
and infrastructure assets such as street furniture are forced to adapt to this change. Smart street furniture in the
urban landscape can be defined as urban accessories that meet new urban needs and contribute to sustainability
through technological advancements. Sustainability and climate change are inextricably linked, and mitigation
and adaptation strategies can contribute to sustainability.
Many global cities have developed ambitious green and sustainability strategies and plans to achieve their goals
of mitigating climate change. This paper focuses on street furniture, which plays a crucial role in urban landscapes
to enhance urban livability under changing climate conditions. This study examines examples of various street
furniture designs within the framework of current street furniture design, sustainability and climate change, and
climate anxiety and adaptation. As a result, it has been demonstrated that new technologies and attractive aesthetic
designs in urban furniture can increase the livability and effectiveness of existing services such as solar energy,
smart technology, and thermal regulation in the urban landscape.
