Özet

This study was conducted to determine the indirect effect of acculturation styles in the effect of self-efficacy, resilience and, acculturation stress on mental health problems among Syrian youth. The sample of the study consisted of 349 Syrian youth between the ages of 11–18 living in Istanbul, Turkey. Mediation analysis was used to test the indirect effect. As a result of the mediation tests, it was found that assimilation and integration mediate the relationship between self-efficacy and mental health problems; the relationship between psychological resilience and mental health problems is mediated only by integration. There was no indirect effect of acculturation styles on the relationship between acculturation stress and mental health problems. Considering the findings obtained from the study, it is thought that prevention and intervention programs can be created to increase the social awareness of individuals in the host society and to develop positive attitudes towards immigrant/refugee individuals.
