Abstract

Following the discovery of genetic polymorphisms at the DNA sequence level, genetic polymorphisms have been used to explain observed phenotypic variability in animals. The presence of genetic markers provides information about allelic variation at a particular locus. The use of genetic markers in livestock can be used for a variety of applications, including genetic diversity, identification of disease vectors, determination of parentage, and the discovery of genes associated with economically important traits (QTL) and marker-assisted selection (MAS). Most of the molecular markers used are amplified fragment length
