Abstract

The guitar instrument was mostly used for singing before being accepted as a solo instrument in world schools. Due to the structure of the guitar instrument, it is suitable for harmonic and counterpointtal musical works, has a privileged sound in arpeggio and legato techniques, as well as a rhythmic ability that creates percussion effect. Considering the historical development process of the classical guitar, it has also attracted the attention of the composers that this naive vocal instrument has the potential to create a perfect timber to accompany the human voice. As a matter of fact, famous romantic period composers such as Schubert and Berlioz wrote accompaniments for the classical guitar instrument.

In this study, Azerbaijani composer Tofiq Quliyev’s Qızıl Üzük, which is one of the songs he wrote for the movie “Baxtiyar”s soundtrack, is discussed. It is aimed to contribute to the repertoire by adapting and interpreting this work to the classical guitar by considering the classical guitar aesthetics. In this direction, technical and musical characteristics were taken into consideration during the adaptation of the work to the classical guitar instrument. In addition, to create a new edition, the work was rewritten according to guitar notation in the note writing program.
