Biography
Ms. Zehra Yılmaz with a PhD degree in International Relations Department from Ankara University, has more than 10 years of work experience in different academic platforms. At present Ms.Yılmaz is an assistant professor in the Department of International Relations at Yüzüncü Yıl University in Van, Turkey. She spent one year of her doctorate period on research at Georgetown University, USA. Ms. Yılmaz has numerous academic articles and one published book naming “Feminine Piety: Transformation of Islamic Women Movement in Turkey” by Iletisim Publications. Academically, her research interests are Political Islam, gender studies and migration policies.
In addition to her academic position, she was involved in two EU supported projects in 2017-2018. In the first project, she worked as a Domain Expert and was one of the report writers of “Monitoring Gender Equality at the Turkish Religious Institutions”. Also, in this project she identified training contexts, designed and planned training curricula and conducted trainnings for SMEs, NGOs. In the second project, she worked on women asylum-seekers in Van/Turkey. As a project’s field coordinator, she prepared and analyzed two different survey questions both for the women asylum-seekers and the general public in Van. She also organized focus group meetings with women refugees and made interviews with NGOs and representatives of public institutions. On the basis of the data yielded in these two projects, she wrote the project report titled “Establishing a Rehabilitation and Consultancy Center for Women and Children Asylum Seekers in Van/Turkey”.
